Dreamr privacy policy

THE SHORT ANSWER

Your photos never leave your home network, and your NAS password is encrypted on the TV. Dreamr sends anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, and, while the weather overlay is on, an approximate location to fetch the forecast.

Your photos

Dreamr reads photos from the folder you choose: an SMB share, an NFS export, or storage on the TV. They are shown on the TV and never uploaded. While the slideshow runs, the photo on screen and the next one are kept as temporary files in the app's cache and deleted as the slideshow moves on. Photo file names, folder paths and location data stay on the TV.

Your NAS details

The server address, share name and username you enter are stored on the TV. The password is encrypted with the TV's Android Keystore. Dreamr sends them only to the server you entered, to sign in to it.

What the app sends

Dreamr has no accounts and shows no ads. It sends the following:

  • Usage statistics to PostHog (servers in the United States): which screens are opened, setup steps, whether a slideshow started or failed and why, the type of photo source (SMB, NFS or local), photo counts, whether the upgrade is active, the app version, the device model and Android version, and a random ID created when the app is installed. The app's diagnostic log lines go to PostHog too, and never include passwords, usernames, photo names or folder paths. If you installed from a link with campaign tags, those tags are recorded once.
  • Crash reports and app analytics to Google Firebase (Crashlytics and Analytics): the error and where in the code it happened, device model, Android version and app version, plus Firebase's own app-instance ID. Firebase Analytics can also read the device's advertising ID, which you can reset or delete in the TV's settings.
  • Weather, only while the weather overlay is on (it is on by default and can be switched off in Display settings): the TV asks ip-api.com for an approximate location from its internet address, then sends that approximate position to Open-Meteo for the current temperature. Neither request carries anything else about you.
  • Purchases go through Google Play. Dreamr receives only whether the one-off upgrade was bought; it never sees payment details.

What we don't do

  • Sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • Upload, scan or analyse your photos.
  • Track you across other apps or websites.

Why, and for how long

Usage statistics and crash reports tell us which setups fail and which features people use, so we can fix bugs and decide what to build. They are kept only as long as they are useful for that, and are not linked to your name. Under UK GDPR the basis for this is our legitimate interest in keeping the app working.

Your choices

Turn off the weather overlay to stop the location lookups. Clearing the app's data on the TV resets its random ID, and uninstalling removes everything Dreamr stored on the TV. To ask what we hold about an installation, or to have it deleted, email support@shogunsoftware.co.uk; we answer within one month.

Children

Dreamr is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children.
